    ●      Develop procedures that can be scaled up for commercial consumption of QC82’s groundbreaking technology.

    ●      Work on device readout, packaging, quenching and end-to-end product designs.

    ●      Present to commercial partners, work closely with commercial partners and customers to iterate on the designs and develop devices that are commercially ready.

    ●   Help grow the team by training scientists and engineers.

    ●   Be involved in setting up QC82’s testing and characterization lab in College Park, MD, transferring academic research into a commercial facility to be expanded over time.

    Experience/Qualifications:

    ● PhD or MS in electrical engineering, physics or materials science with an emphasis on optoelectronics, photonic device design, characterization, and fabrication methodologies.

    ●      Strong knowledge of III-V semiconductors and hands-on experience with device integration techniques in Silicon.

    ●      Familiarity with chip-fiber coupling techniques and the desire to significantly improve upon them.

    ●      Familiarity with FIMMWAVE, FIMMPROP, Lumerical, and other software tools.

    ●      Familiarity with classical readout and feedback circuits, and the desire to learn more.

    ●      Strong ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary technical teams.

    ●      Effective writing and presentation skills.

    ●      Desire to see the commercial applications of our game changing technology.

    ●      Track record of a get-it-done mindset, corroborated with publications, patents, or a strong performance in commercial settings.

    Why this role

This is a chance to be part of the founding team of a company working on technically and operationally consequential problems.

    You will have:

    ●      Ownership of the development of QC82’s photon detection technology.

    ●      Multidisciplinary exposure to the technical as well as commercial aspects of the technology.

    ●      The opportunity to shape QC82’s technical milestones and team.

    ●      Scope to grow with the company.

QC82 provides competitive pay, flexible working schedule, and an opportunity to grow in an exciting area working alongside a talented and friendly team. QC82 is on a quest to enable scalable, commercially transformative photonic quantum computing technology at room temperature. We care about doing things properly. Clear thinking, depth of understanding, and disciplined execution matter here, particularly where technical and operational stakes are high. We are assembling a world class team and looking for exceptionally talented team members dedicated to the mission of QC82.

    Job Summary:‍ ‍

We are hiring a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to own execution across the company.

The COO exists to own execution inside the company. The work is hands-on, practical, and consequential. You will have real influence over how QC82 operates and how it grows by making operational decisions within agreed boundaries.

It also means putting in place the foundational operating infrastructure the company needs to build and scale: practical systems and processes across people operations, finances, and legal/commercial execution, working with external advisors where appropriate. The focus is on enabling reliable delivery. Strategic direction, external narrative, fundraising, board relationships, values, and people leadership remain with the CEO.

How you’ll work with the CEO

The COO acts as a trusted extension of the CEO in execution, bringing operational insight and ground truth into decision-making, and then owning delivery, reporting to the CEO. The role will start with close collaboration with the CEO and expected to grow more autonomous over time so you operate with autonomy over execution, within agreed boundaries and in consultation with the CEO. You bring operational insight and ground truth into decisions, and then take responsibility for delivery. This structure allows execution to continue reliably while external work runs in parallel.

    Responsibilities:

You take responsibility for how QC82 operates in practice. Decisions turn into clear plans, ownership, and follow-through. Work moves from intent to outcome without ambiguity or drift.

    ●       Company operations: Day-to-day operations, making internal processes better, setting up scalable systems as needed. You make day-to-day operational decisions within agreed boundaries, keep the CEO appropriately informed, and take accountability for outcomes. If something operational goes wrong, you are responsible for anticipating it and addressing it.

    ●       Execution rhythm and prioritization: You establish a clear operating rhythm across the company: priorities, sequencing, and delivery. You ensure progress continues without unnecessary escalation or bottlenecks.

Some of the areas your work will involve include:

    ●       Laboratory setup and readiness: You lead the setup of the laboratory end to end — facilities, equipment, vendors, safety, compliance, and operational readiness — so technical work can proceed reliably and safely.

    ●       People & HR: Hiring, onboarding, payroll, benefits, act as a trusted point of contact for employees on operational and administrative items.

    ●       Finance & accounting: Budgeting, cashflow, accounting, taxes, financial models and forecasts for QC82’s technology.

    ●       Legal, compliance & administration: Company registrations, subsidiaries, contracts, NDAs, vendor relationships.

    ●       Executive Support: Iterate on board and investor materials, act as a thought partner to the CEO as needed, step in where needed.

    Experience/Qualifications:

    ●      Industry experience owning operations, execution, or general management in a startup or scale-up environment for 2-5 years.

    ●      An engineering/physics undergraduate and/or a readiness to learn about the technology in a meaningful way to make sound operational decisions.

    ●      Comfort working across finance, contracts, compliance, and operational detail, either directly or through vendors.

    ●      Financial literacy, including budgeting, cash management, and practical forecasting.

    ●      experience operating in technically complex or hardware-led environments (deep tech, photonics, semiconductors, or adjacent fields).

    ●      The ability to move comfortably between structured planning and hands-on problem-solving.

    ●      clear communication, sound judgement, and the ability to handle pressure without creating noise.

    Helpful, but not required:

    ●      Prior experience as a COO, Head of Operations, or in a CFO-adjacent operational role.

    ●      Exposure to working with investors, boards, or international partners.

    ●      experience helping take a company from early technical progress into operational maturity.

    Why this role

This is a chance to be part of the founding team of a company working on technically and operationally consequential problems.

    You will have:

    ●      Ownership over how QC82 operates and delivers.

    ●      Influence over how the company’s internal processes and infrastructure is built.

    ●      The opportunity to work closely with deep technical work while shaping the operational reality around it.

    ●      Scope to grow with the company.
